Harvest time. The mountains swallow the sun too quickly now as we gather in. And, by His hand, there is much to harvest and to share. Melons of every perfume, peppers of every hue, red and yellow watermelons, laden with sweet juice. Carrots, tomatoes, okra, sweet onions, a multitude of cucumbers and zucchinis, verdant lettuces, chilies, fragrant cilantro and basils...elegant green beans, purple beans, yellow and romano beans, tomatillos, shiny black and tender eggplants...all vying for our attention..and yours! Try some of our “kid-friendly” veggies like our sweet carrots, purple green beans, lemon and middle eastern cucumbers and melons – especially the super-sweet yellow watermelon. Our crenshaw melons can be cut into chunks and frozen for “creamsicles” – yum! All of our melons are great in smoothies.
Salsa bags are in, both the Salsa Verde and now, our Berry Patch Salsa. Fresh cilantro is included in both and both can be frozen for winter. Salsa is a great way to get extra veggies in tummies. You control the heat level with the number of serrano peppers you choose to include.
Due to the late freeze on the Western Slope, peach season is coming to an abrubt end soon. We are currently well-supplied but enjoy these sweet beauties now.
Pick Your Own:
Strawberry and raspberry picking is still on the lighter side but those who are coming early are finding nice berries. We anticipate heavier picking as we move into September.
Flowers remain glorious!
Pickles remain abundant over the next several weeks.
Basils – now is the time to make pesto and freeze it for winter and to make elegant purple basil vinegar. Basil is at its best before the night temperatures drop into the forties, typically starting in a few weeks.
Our market hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays 8 to 1 and Saturdays 8 am until 2 pm. We will be starting to roast chilies this Saturday. New this year is an improved version of our hot anaheim Sandia, with thicker walls for a meatier chili with the same terrific flavor and heat.
Our market is a sensory overload of color and flavor. We invite you to come, enjoy and savor the flavors!
Green Beans are plentiful and we will have special pricing for bulk purchases.
Tweety Bird is growing wing feathers and loves to join me as I tend to the flower gardens!
